I had a job, a convertible, a residence, and a business idea that I was trying to sell to the local Wal-Mart when Katrina came through our city. I lost everything. I then boarded a bus that was going to Chicago, IL. Upon arrival the Mayor and his staff were there to help us with temporary housing.
One day I received a call stating that 1-800 Charity Cars, a nationwide 501©3 non-profit charity, was donating 100 vehicles to domestic violence survivors and victims of Hurricane Katrina in Chicago, IL. I was fortunate to receive a 1990 Mercury Sable, “Big Red”, which enabled me to regain my independence and motivation. Without 1-800 Charity Cars I would not be able to continue my dream to market my business idea of a new hair accessory that will be available this fall at Walgreen’s. Due to receiving the vehicle from 1-800 Charity Cars, I am now able to donate “Big Red” to someone less fortunate who has a “dream” to succeed as I did.

I want to express my joy

I would like to thank you for my 1993 Jeep Cherokee Wagoner. This happened 2 days before Christmas and was their greatest gift. They were in the shelter over 90 days and she had left an abusive husband. I am the director of a shelter for battered women. Starting November 1, 2007 we have the good fortune to have an Americorp worker for 1 year. This worker will do follow-up with families after they leave & assist with resources such as: going back to school, help with ongoing court hearings regarding assaults and providing information & referrals to other community agencies that may be helpful. The worker did not have a car but a valid driver's license. The gift was so timely due to some recent health issues. I dreaded the idea of braving another winter at the bus stops. I have an 11 year old daughter and this vehicle makes it much easier to coordinate her schooling with my work. I am very committed to giving back to those in need in my community & with this car that will now be possible. Thanks again for your generosity. May you be blessed as you continue to bless others.

Lesia
KY

I am very grateful & honored (blessed)

Thank you for my 2000 Chrysler Concorde. I am a single mother of 5 and this vehicle will help my family get to school, work and daily activities. I am very happy and excited to receive this gift of kindness. Single families, like myself, can get this wonderful opportunity to have a good running car. Please tell the person who donated the car we said thank you and we are so happy we received it.

Michelle

CA
