For others, it means being able to make it to a job in an area that public transportation is not a viable option. Donating cars to Charity Cars isn’t a hassle either. We strive to make it a pleasant and worry-free experience for all of our donors. First, you decide upon the fair market value of your car (we suggest using a site such as www.kbb.com for the Kelly Blue Book resources), something that current tax law states that can only be done by the person making the donation. Then, you call Charity Cars and we put you in touch with one of our affiliated towing companies located throughout the United States. They will contact you and arrange a convenient time and location for you to have your car picked up. You give the signed title to the tow truck driver and your car is taken to a repair facility for a safety inspection where we verify that the condition of the car is consistent with what you have conveyed to us. If we can use your car in our program, you will be sent a receipt for your donation telling you that you are entitled to claim the fair market value for tax purposes. If for some reason we can’t use your car, we will sell the car at auction, and will mail you a receipt for the full sale price which you can then claim as a deduction whether that amount is higher or lower than the fair market value you conveyed to us.
